The salary hike, effective July , is intended to cushion impact on rising prices of commodities which greatly affected low income city hall workers.
Cagayan de Oro City’s some 2,000 City Hall employees will receive a 10 per cent salary hike effective this month including allowances for office uniforms, City Mayor Constantino Jaraula said Wednesday.
Jaraula said the increase is in accordance with House Bill No. 3819 providing a 10 percent salary increase for all government workers in order to help them cushion the impact of the continued rise in fuel prices.
The city executive made the announcement shortly after he reported to work after his trip to Norfolk City in Virginia, USA where the city signed a sisterhood memorandum.
Jaraula said that the granting of the 10 percent salary increase to all local government employees will help them cope with the rising costs of basic commodities, especially the prices of rice.
“With the impending salary hike, I hope city employees will do more in rendering the delivery of effective and efficient public service to the people of /cagayan de Oro,” the city mayor said.
At present, the lowest-paid Cit Hall employee is currently receiving P254.00 a day or P5,590.00 monthly salary, while a department head is getting P1,126.05 a day or P24,773.00 monthly pay.
Thus, an employee with Salary Grade 1 will enjoy an additional increase amounting to P559 per month while a department head with Salary Grade 26 will get P2,477.30 monthly pay hike.
Aside from the 10 percent salary increase, City Hall employees also stand t receive an additional pair of daily uniforms starting July this year as an added benefit.
President Arroyo approved last month House Bill No. 3819 providing a 10 percent salary increase for all government wokers in order to help them cushion the impact of the continued rise in fuel prices.
Covered by the authorized increase are civilian officials and employees of national government agencies, including military and police personnel, government owned and/or controlled corporations (GOCCs), government finance corporations (GFIs), state universities and colleges, and local government untis.
